The Arrogant Wolf
Once upon a time there was a wolf that had not eaten in many days. He spent every day searching for food he could eat but every day he had no food he became weaker. The weaker he became the less capable he was of hunting for food. One day he came across a tiger that had just killed a buffalo, the smell of the meat was too much for the wolf to handle. He approached the tiger and asked him if he could have any of his meet. The tiger laughed and asked the wolf how would this benefit him to give away his kill? The wolf assured the tiger that he was willing to do anything for the tiger to eat. The tiger thought about it and came to the decision that this was a good idea. The tiger told the wolf that everyday he has to go to the top of the mountain and search for a elephant, giraffe or buffalo for him to kill and when he sees one he must come back and report it. The wolf agreed. Day after day this agreement went on, the wolf would find the animal and the tiger would kill it, both of them were eating like kings. After days of this, the wolf gained all of his strength back and more.
One day the wolf was feeling particularly arrogant and told the tiger that today he was going to find the animal and kill it himself. The wolf went to the top of the mountain and waited till he saw an animal that he could kill. At last he spotted a buffalo, the wolf emerged and went after the buffalo. The buffalo knew the wolf was not a skilled hunter and stomped on the wolf, leaving him with a broken leg. The wolf whimpered away feeling defeated. When he came back to the tiger, the tiger laughed at him. He told the wolf, "It takes a lot more than just strength to kill another animal." The wolf was too arrogant and foolish to think that he was capable of hunting when he only had strength but no wisdom.
Author's Note: In the original story a wolf is very hungry and comes into contact with a lion, he and this lion form a pact that the wolf will search out the food while the lion kills it. The wolf becomes strong and attempts to kill an elephant. The elephant smashes the wolf and kills him. his arrogance in the original story gets him killed where as in mine he only gets hurt. This shows that arrogance can often get in the way and cloud our judgement. The brain is often more powerful than any body.

Hi Paige! I like how you changed the buffalo to an elephant. You also created this atmosphere of close connections between all the animals. I wasn't sure how the buffalo knew the wolf was a bad hunter. Was it simply obvious from the way the wolf approached or tried to hide in preparation for the attack? Was his attack literally just so horrible that the buffalo could tell that the wolf had no wisdom in his entire body? I think you could really bring in some strong description to get the point across, bringing in the fact that the wolf is all brawn and no brains. It would be cool to even have the Tiger telling the story, as a watcher of all the things going down!
ReplyDeleteHi Paige! This was such a fun story to read. I like that there is this connection/agreement with between the tiger and lion. They're two very different animals who seem like they have different personalities. But yet here they are, working together for one common purpose: to eat. I think you did a good job on this! Keep up the good work!
