Story Lab: Week 10, Ted Talks

The Danger of a Single Story By: Chimamanda Adichie The first Ted Talk was very interesting, it taught me that we are not confined to write about what we have read about. We can change and make every single story our own with our own imagination. Not everyone is a "single story," there is much more to people and to a story than one aspect of it. So many people are thought of as single stories and are often thought of as only having one characteristic. Media can play a large part in forming our single stories, when we look at stories with only one point of view we are most often wrong. There is much more to people and places than one view or what we think we know. People are much more than one thing and if all people see are one thing then those other people become that one thing. One story is not representative of an entire population or ethnicity.  Imaginary Friends and Real Life Consequences  By: Jennifer Barnes We form para-social relationships with fictional

Week 8 Progress

So far I am mostly pleased with my work in this class. I have an A that is something I am proud of and excited about. I have tried hard to keep up with this class and to stay on top of the work. For the most part I stick to the same routine each week and try to make sure that I get each assignment done on time. In terms of developing my blog and site, I am happy with the way they are coming together. Coming from someone who is not techy or that has any past experience with creating websites or blogs. In the future I really want to try and be proactive, instead of waiting for the deadline I want to get things done ahead of time. I think this will work in my favor to work ahead and it will provide me with more possibilities to do the work on my schedule. Im happy with my site, I think it represents my topic well and I look forward to seeing the end result. Image Information

Week 8 Comments and Feedback

Overall, I would say that the feedback I have received has been extremely helpful. My favorite comments that I receive are the ones that tell me a positive about my story and then also give a suggestion on how to fix something that they did not like. I would say the feedback I have been giving has been helpful, I try and give a couple of positives about their writing but also give a suggestion on what I think will help improve it. While looking at other people's writings and stories I have found some good strategies and good ideas on what to incorporate in my stories. I am happy with my introduction post, I think it gives people a good idea of what I am like and who I am as a person. I really enjoy reading other people's blogs and getting to know other people in my class even though it is an online class. I think in order to make my comments more useful I need to look at the other comments and try to suggest something that has not already been suggested. For my comments I think

Week 8 Reading and Writing

For the reading and writing assignments in this class I am for the most part satisfied. I have learned a lot about the epics in India and how important they are to their culture. I have struggles with writing stories and coming up with ideas that either represent with Ramayana or the Mahabharata. As far as my blog and site, I am satisfied with the layout and the design of them. They both are easy for people to navigate and have nice colors and represent what they are talking about. I think my biggest accomplishment in this class would be my ability to make my own website and design it the way i like it, I have never done anything like that before. My favorite reading so far has been the Ramayana, I had never heard the story before and it was super interesting. My reading notes help me write my stories each week, so I really enjoy doing those. I chose this picture because some of my favorite stories I read were about Rama and Sita. Image Information . In the future, in order to

Week 7 Story: The Great Fight

The Great Fight Once upon a time, long long ago, their was a fight that would change the world. This fight was between two sisters that happened to be twins. Long before this fight began the two sisters grew up as the best of friends. These sisters did everything together and both were princesses to their parents who were the king and queen of a magnificent city. Many people had always wondered who would take the throne when the time came but this was never a thought of the young girls, until one day.... The king and queen came to their daughters the day they turned 18 and told them that in order for one of them to take the throne they must first complete some tasks. They said that whoever was to complete the tasks the quickest and with the most success would gain the throne. The sisters agreed, and the tasks ensued.  For weeks there were archery tournaments, hunting tournaments, agility tests, and tasks that tested their ability to think rationally and quickly. Weeks went o
